  1. LHCb Resource requests for (2011),2012,2013 M.Cattaneo (and R. Graciani) LHCC referees meeting 21 March 2010 Summary from LHCb-PUB-2011-009 (updated, to reduce tape usage)

  2. Overview • Changes to Computing Model • 2011 Re-assessment • 2012-2013 requests LHCC Referees meeting 21st March 2011

  3. Changes to Computing Model (I) • LHC has increased mean number of visible proton-proton collisions per bunch crossing relative to LHCb TDR design: • from 0.4 to 2.0 • This implies changes to basic parameters of the model: LHCC Referees meeting 21st March 2011

  4. Changes to the Computing Model (II) • Reduce number of replicas to accommodate larger events: • 4 T0D1 replicas (was 2 T1D1 (‘master’) plus 5 T0D1 (‘secondary’)) • All are now considered ‘secondary’ • Archival: • 2 archive: T1D0 (T2D0 at CERN for RAW) • ‘master’ copy written directly to archival storage • In previous model, T1D1 masters migrated to T1D0 at ‘archival’ time • More aggressive reduction of old data from disk: • keep 2 versions + ½ of next version LHCC Referees meeting 21st March 2011

  5. Changes to Computing Model (III) • Baseline: b Physics: • 2 kHz of Trigger • 10% retention in Stripping • RAW: 500 TB/year • SDTS: 400 TB/pass • DST: 130 TB/pass • New: c Physics • 1 kHz of Trigger • 100% retention in Stripping • 10% reduction in size after Stripping • RAW: 250 TB/year • MDST: 65 TB/pass • Monte Carlo dedicated to b/c samples • DST: 300 TB/year LHCC Referees meeting 21st March 2011

  6. 2011 Re-assessment CPU • Average work fits well within pledge • Peak power during full reprocessing exceeds the average pledge LHCC Referees meeting 21st March 2011

  7. 2011 Re-assessment Storage • Small amount of extra disk needed • Reduction in tape at Tier1, increase at CERN LHCC Referees meeting 21st March 2011

  8. 2012 and 2013 estimates • Changes in 2012 with respect to 2011: • One additional reprocessing of 2010+2011 data • 30% increase in user activity • Changes in 2013 with respect to 2012 • No LHC running • Re-stripping of full 2010-2012 sample in spring • Reprocessing of full 2010-2012 sample in autumn • Additional simulation, using Tier0/Tier1 resources dedicated to quasi-online data processing in previous years LHCC Referees meeting 21st March 2011

  9. 2011-2013 CPU Partial Repro. Online Reco. & Strip. Partial Re-strip. Full Repro. Users Simulation LHCC Referees meeting 21st March 2011

  10. 2011-2013 CPU LHCC Referees meeting 21st March 2011

  11. 2011–2013 Storage LHCC Referees meeting 21st March 2011

  12. 2011-2013 Storage LHCC Referees meeting 21st March 2011

  13. Backup Slides LHCC Referees meeting 21st March 2011

  14. 2011 Pledges • From: WLCGResources-2010-2012_15DEC2010.pdf LHCC Referees meeting 21st March 2011

  15. Changes to Computing Model (IV) • CPU efficiency: • Simulation: 80% • Data Processing: 70% • User Analysis: 60% • Storage efficiency: • Disk: 70 % • Tape: 100 % LHCC Referees meeting 21st March 2011

  16. 2011 Re-assessment (w/o Charm) LHCC Referees meeting 21st March 2011
