With the world still recovering from the remnants of WWII, and fearing a nuclear war developing, Eduard and his wife sought a better way of life. They purchased a harbor boat, a low-lying, diesel-powered boat that Eduard refurbished by adding sails to make it seaworthy. They then set their minds on sailing to Argentina and began their journey with their three little girls, a young German couple, and a crew of three to assist in the voyage. Once on the high seas, they encountered a storm that nearly destroyed their boat. They set sail once again after their boat was repaired, stopping in various ports. It was when they were in the Canary Islands that a government representative encouraged refugees to migrate to Venezuela. After four long months of seafaring travel, they finally arrived on the coast of Venezuela. Unfortunately, Venezuela came under a dictatorship, and after several years, Eduard uprooted his family yet again and moved to Colombia as a stepping stone to immigrate to America.Presented in this book is the tale of a loving father, who immigrated to America, traveling through a multitude of different destinations only to provide a safe and peaceful refuge for his family. We learn how he built a life from scratch and helped his children come to terms with the duality of their heritage while keeping their love alive for this new country that they now call home.
