The stipulation of World Commission on Environment and Development Among three components of sustainability-social, ecological and economic- social sustainability is least developed and examined in the literature. Three Traditions • Community Well-being • Human-centered Development • Sustainability

INTERMODALITY Growth is not synonymous with development. It is obvious. But, the same goes for personal welfare. Individual choices while maximizing personal welfare, may not maximize social welfare. (negative externalities of Road Transport) Different modes of transport use different forms of energy with varying efficiency and intensity and consequential environmental damage. Poorer countries have low social preference for environmental effects like noise pollution.
