History of the character Wonder Woman is the most popular female comic-book superhero of all time and has been around for as long as the well-known characters like Superman and Batman. • She has been a beacon of strength for so many people for about three-quarters of a century with her debut in the 1941’s All Star Comics No.8. • Her official title is Diana, Princess of the Amazons. • Wonder Women tells the tale of Princess Diana of Themyscira with her original origin story saying she as formed out of clay by her mother, Hippolyta, and have life bestowed upon her by the Greek gods - making her the only Amazon not conceived by a man. • She grows up free of men on the Paradise Island where the Amazons teach her warrior skills as well as lessons of love and peace. • The gods also gift Diana with powers including strength, wisdom and courage, a hunter’s heart, beauty, sisterhood, speed, and flight. • The character was created by William Moulton Marston, who envisioned her as the ideal love leader and the type of women who should rule the world with the strength of Superman and the appeal of a good and beautiful women. • Marston created her character in response to the dominance of male superheroes and lack of female superheroes • He hoped that his female hero would inspire many young kids, especially young girls. • Wonder Women is viewed as a feminist icon. • The comic book has been published by DC Comics for the entirety of its run apart form a brief hiatus in 1986. • Her red, white, and blue star-spangles suit is among her most striking and recognisable characteristics and has become her characters most known trademark. • Her appearance is undoubtably beautiful, but this purposely does not undermine her strength. • The famous weaponry repertoire includes: Gauntlets of Atlas - increases strength of the wearer by ten (sometimes causes Diana trouble to be controlling the sudden increase in strength). And the Lasso of Truth - a lasso which forces people to tell the truth; can restore memories; get rid of or cause illusions to those it holds; heal the holder insanity and protect those in close proximity from magical attacks. •
Dc Universe in comparison to the Marvel franchise Comic book fans have argued for long periods of times whether Marvel or DC Comics have the best comics and due to the prominence of superhero films over the last two decades, these debates have only grown more intense • The main difference was in the early approaches to the characters and their perspectives • Sadly, both comic companies have become a bit tarnished because of their profit motives and not maintaining their previous ideologies. • DC DC’s heroic templates seemed both brighter and more idealistic than Marvel’s because of their origins in times like WW1 that were in desperate need for humour and light • The company would tell silly stories during the 50s and 60s, with no need for continuity and allowed them to create stories not connected to each other, keeping them lighter toned • The company DC would have similar characters and, in some cases,, they were copies of the core characters of the DC Universe • Their heroes covered every elemental region and often replicated gods of myth. Aqua man (Posidon), the Flash (Hermes), the Martian Manhunter (Proteus) • DC’s heroes exist to be the example of how great humanity can be when we work together toward common goals and their heroes promote the future of Humanity • This may be the reason why DC’s new characters haven’t gained the ground their iconic originals did due to them not being as mythic • Marvel Marvel tried to create very mortal being who often acquires super heroic capacities. The Fantastic Four being a perfect example: astronauts, scientists, pilots, and stuntmen but they were given powers extending of their heroic status into a god-like state • Marvel’s later here’s were often victims of tragedy like exploitation and were attempting to retake control of their lives and tries to cope with their loss in different way • Marvel also played with the other half of the human equation and the desire for normality. • Marvel’s most iconic heroes have been consistently able to be related to by a wider audience because their primary issues are very human, seasoned with a superhuman essence •
