  4. Archimedean Persians • Largest empire to date and lasted 558-332 BCE located in Middle East and Central Asia • Capitalized on weakening regional Assyrian and Babylonian empires • Unified previously warring states • Conquered EXCELLENT agricultural land

  5. Archimedean Persians • Used advanced bows, cavalry, and organized military hierarchy to conquer • Conquered and occupied: • Mesopotamia • Egypt • Phoenicians and Eastern Mediterranean Greek territory

  6. Archimedean Characteristics/Accomplishment • Tolerant and welcoming leaders • Conquered people kept religion, culture, and SOME political autonomy • Soldiers from all conquered areas were offered the opportunity to enter the ranks of the Persian Army

  15. Archimedean Characteristics/Accomplishment • Royal Road was a major highway to facilitate communication, trade, military movements, and unify major cities • Protected & Encouraged trade for taxes

Archimedean Characteristics/Accomplishment • Persian rulers used gold & and silver coins with their likeness on them to represent their power and authority to rule over their subjectsand encourage trade • Standardized currency was also used to highlight successful military troops and campaigns
