  1. A Comprehensive Guide to Laser Engraving What exactly is laser engraving? Laser engraving is specifically designed for making well-defined designs and icons in a variety of sizes and figures. The procedure is the same as in laser cutting, but the difference is that the former is a laser method, and the second one is a laser subtractive method. Both laser cutting and engraving are subtractive method. “Laser cutting is mainly a thermal process in which a focused laser beam is used to melt material in a localized area. An assist gas jet is used to eject the molten material and create kerfs. A continuous cut is produced by moving the laser beam or work piece under CNC control.” There are two types of laser engraving: line engraving and surface engraving. The first one is used for making vector designs and illustrations. In this type, the only high- penetration laser targets are those on the pre-determined path, such as lines, and the laser revolves around the same way.
