Facts: • With the use of clickers, the teacher immediately knows if the students understand what’s being taught • This gives the teacher an opportunity to review content or move on to the next topic • Students will also be able to compare their level of understanding to their classmates understanding as well • If 80% of the class answered the question correctly but the one student did not, it can create a motivation to study more • The use of the clickers gives the students opportunities to comfortably express how they feel even if they think their opinion differs from others

Pros/Cons: • Pros: • Increases student participation; gives opportunities for all children to answer questions • Fun and encourages live discussion in the classroom; leaves students alert and active • No charge or fee for the software • Cons: • $100 for receiver and $30 for each clicker • It can take some time to create the slides • If too many questions are asked, it leaves less time to explain important content • It does not improve poorly organized lectures • If channel is set on a different channel than the clickers, the clickers will not be recognized

How it’s currently being used: • Answer questions in forms of quizzes • Perform instructor or course evaluations • Record Attendance • Self Assessment for students • Provides more interaction and participation since kids enjoy using this device versus writing • Quick method to quiz students, which can also be counted as class participation

Facts: • Podcasts of vocabulary activities were developed by teachers and were then implemented into two fifth grade classrooms. • Podcasting reinforced different reading strategies and enabled the students to practice vocabulary. • An enhanced podcast is a multimedia format that allows images and jpegs to be displayed in time with audio. • Using technology as an aid to help students remember vocabulary can be very motivating for both the teachers who develop the podcasts and the students who use the podcasts.

Pros/Cons: • Pros: • Children can work at their own pace with teachers available to answer questions • They can start and stop when necessary and replay the key points • Students can continue to work on their podcast during individual work time if needed • Can incorporate visual, auditory, and tactile learning styles • Can be used for different subjects • Cons: • Only been available since 2005, so it’s still considered new and may have some issues • Teachers may have to go through training to learn how use it

  10. How it’s currently being used: • Helps reinforce vocabulary retention • Helps pre-service teachers link activities • Students can take it home and complete questions and manipulative activities.
