  4. 3 Distinct, Inter-related Projects • Common Language Group (FRDC TRF application) • Responsible Fishing and Aquaculture Scheme • Australian Seafood Sustainability Standard for Wild Fishing and Aquaculture • All will contribute to a notable improvement in public perceptions of the fishing & aquaculture • All utilise extend significant past FRDC investments Seafood Services Australia is a not for profit company supported by the Australian seafood industry and the Australian Government through funding from the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation

  5. Status of Projects • Need Identified through FRDC and SSA Reviews and SSA Network, Sydney 18 May 2011 • Projects concepts submitted to FRDC • Fine tune concepts based on industry and FRAB feedback • Need your feedback and support

Common Language Group • Primary Target: All seafood industry stakeholders • Framework and process for potentially disparate groups to achieve agreed positions through consensus • Define and develop consensus positions and terminology on critical industry issues • Extend agreed positions via reports, guides, fact sheets • All players in the seafood supply chain may participate • SSA Network in October will establish group & agree on ToRs Seafood Services Australia is a not for profit company supported by the Australian seafood industry and the Australian Government through funding from the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation

Responsible Fishing & Aquaculture Scheme • Primary Target: Seafood Industry (through chain) • Collaborative project with Oceanwatch Australia • Based on successful UK model • Provide a credible framework to extend responsible fishing and aquaculture practices to consumers and the public • SSA: • Develop scheme framework including high level principles • Assess sector codes (existing and new) against principles • Oceanwatch: • On ground roll-out and delivery • Assess operators compliance with sector codes • Sector codes remain industry owned • Operators may promote compliance with scheme logo Seafood Services Australia is a not for profit company supported by the Australian seafood industry and the Australian Government through funding from the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation

Australian Seafood Sustainability Standard for Wild Fishing and Aquaculture • Primary Target: Fisheries science and management • Authoritative Australian Standard against which the seafood industry can demonstrate its sustainability. • Quantitative framework for clarifying current confusion in the fisheries sustainability debate • Recognition and adoption of the Standard will enhance market penetration (domestic and international) of Australian seafood • Standards Development Committee involving key stakeholders • Develop through SSA’s accredited process for developing Australian Standards (see website) Seafood Services Australia is a not for profit company supported by the Australian seafood industry and the Australian Government through funding from the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation
