  1. Called to Jesus:The Incarnation and the Kingdom of God

  2. Being a Christian means… • Believing that Christ is the Incarnate (Living) Word of God • This means: • Jesus is both human and divine (both man AND God) • Human - able to suffer and die • Divine - able to forgive our sins • We see God in Jesus – we love God in loving Jesus • REFLECT: What are ways that people show their faith in Jesus? (people you know, celebrities, religious leaders)

  3. External signs of faith

  4. What did Jesus teach about the afterlife? • Recall the parables. Talk in your small group about what you think Jesus taught about life after death. • The term “kingdom of God” or “kingdom of heaven” is defined almost entirely by parable (examples?) • Kingdom of God – a time when all covenants (agreements) made with God are fulfilled • Remember covenants made in the Old and New Testaments – fill in some examples in your scripture reference sheet

  5. The Kingdom of God • Jesus relates the Kingdom to eternal life (Beatitudes, the Lord’s Prayer) – The Kingdom is when God’s will is done on earth, as it is in Heaven • It will be a “kingdom of love, peace and justice” (CCC #2046) • The role of humanity is to create the kingdom right now on earth, before Christ comes again (time of Judgment) • If God is love, the Kingdom of God could be called “Love’s Rule” or “Love’s Reign”

  6. The Kingdom, continued… • According to Pope Benedict XVI, the Kingdom of God has three parts: • Jesus, who is the Kingdom in human form • people, who have the Kingdom within them • the Church, whose mission is to preach about the Kingdom
