Suggestions for Studying • Research says that DISTRIBUTED practice is more effective than MASSED practice – study every night! • Make notecards for more than the required terms • What terms? Look at unit objectives • USE the unit objectives. Try to answer/outline them • Come up with key words to help you remember concepts • Anytime you hear “cognitive” look for keywords like: interpret, perceive, think, remember • Names: mnemonic devices • Mary Whiton Calkins v. Margaret Floy Washburn • C comes before W. Calkins was APA president first. Applied for doctorate first (but was turned down), so Washburn must be the first • Re-read the text section after we have discussed something (yes, read it more than once!) • Find a study buddy/group. • Come to class with questions • Come in for help
