Introduction: • SE (preShower Endcap) • Each SE is a donut-shaped disk of 2.5 tons • SEs have to be installed before beampipe in ’06 according to V33 • SEs arrive fully tested at SX5 • Preliminary installation of SE on EE Dummies to debug • EE (Ecal Endcap) • Each EE consists of 2 Dees • Each Dee is a half-disk of 12 tons (incl. frame), installation • after beampipe possible • Dees arrive fully tested and in up-right position at SX5 after • test mounting at assembly area HE = HCAL Endcap, HF = HCAL Forward 11/9/2002 2 Wolfgang Funk - CERN CMS

Schedule, Manpower and Cost Estimates (SE): • Dates: Jun. 06 (12 working days) for SE+ and SE- • Mechanical installation: 1day/SE • Electrical installation and testing: ~week/SE • Manpower: point 5 Support Team, technicians, engineers • and physicists from collaboration institutes (3+3) • (no hired manpower needed) • Installation tools: 2 frames and 1 lifting gear <40K • schematic drawings existing • SE table is part of EE platform • HF raisers (time to build up raisertower: 2h) 11/9/2002 11 Wolfgang Funk - CERN CMS

Schedule, Manpower and Cost Estimates (SE)(2): • Services from patch panels onwards: cabling link person • cooling link person • 40 patch panels /SE • per patch panel: 2 LV cables, 1 HV cable, 1 DCS cable • inside cooled cable trays • cable trays used as well for EE services • 10 fiber cables/SE, 4 cooling pipes/SE • Manpower for cabling from CMS cabling team • Cabling already done in 2004/2005 11/9/2002 12 Wolfgang Funk - CERN CMS

Schedule, Manpower and Cost Estimates (EE): • Dates: Jan. 07 (2 months) for EE+ and EE- • Mechanical, electrical installation including testing: 2 weeks/EE • ’’Flying’’ test system: (used for EB, as well) with cooling, HV, LV • and fibers connected to patch panels (2/Dee) • Manpower: point 5 Support Team, technicians, engineers • and physicists from collaboration institutes (3+3) • (no hired manpower needed) • Installation tools: 4 Dummy Dees: ~100K (study underway) • EE platform(s): (2X) 100K (drawings existing) • HF raisers, Airpads are standard CMS • If Dees are late: SE stays on Dummy EE, LHC shutdown period • (2 months summer 07) could be used to install • EE- or both (EE+, EE-) 11/9/2002 13 Wolfgang Funk - CERN CMS

Schedule, Manpower and Cost Estimates (EE)(2): • Services from patch panels onwards: cabling link person • cooling link person • 4 patch panels /Dee • per patch panel: 1 cooling pipe, 34 LV cables, • 4 HV cables, 3 fiber cables, DCS cables • inside cooled cable trays • cable trays used as well for SE services • Manpower for cabling from CMS cabling team • Cabling already done in 2004/2005 11/9/2002 14 Wolfgang Funk - CERN CMS

Conclusion: • Costs are accounted in costbook • Installation is using only point 5 Support Team and • institutional manpower (no hired manpower needed) • Contingency plan exists • Production drawings of installation tools have to be made • Start of tooling production 2003 after EDR • All tooling submitted for approval to TIS 11/9/2002 15 Wolfgang Funk - CERN CMS
