  4. FAO Support to Bangladesh Since 1978, a total of 232 projects implemented for a total delivery of US$ 266,485,990. Policy assistance and capacity development. Comprehensive and cross-sectoral approach towards increasing agricultural production. Sustainable food and nutrition security Adaptation to Climate Change Development of Fisheries sector Development of Livestock & Dairy sector Forest Current portfolio: 36 projects implemented and in final stages of approval for a total budget of US$ 26,963,956. Plus additional pipeline of: 11 projects for total possible budget of ~23,005,295.

Resources mobilized in 2012 USAID Integrated Agriculture and Health-based Interventions for Improved Food and Nutrition Security in Selected Districts of Southern Bangladesh-Joint Nutrition Project-FAO and UNICEF : USD 4,359,929 Improving Household Food and Nutrition Security of Women and Children through improved Backyard and Small-Scale Poultry Production: USD 2,500,000 Strengthening National Capacity to Respond to Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) and Emerging and Re-Emerging Diseases in Bangladesh: USD 2,000,000 The Netherlands Improving Food Safety in Bangladesh: USD 12,5000,00 Enhancing Food Security through improved crop water management practices in the Southern Coastal areas of Bangladesh: USD 2,500,000 Private Sector (Rabobank ) PPP support to school milk programme in Satkhira : EUR 100000

Lessons learnt • A strong long-term policy role is essential: NFPCSP-provides continuous policy support, advocacy and coordination • Focus on potential donors: USAID, The Netherlands Feed the Future of USAID, Dutch Country Strategy • Relationship with trust of Donors: Organize meetings, Information sharing, field visits , Liaise with → constant communication • Role of FAO in DPs: LCG, FSC Co-Chair of the Local Consultative Group-Agriculture, Food Security and Rural Development: a platform for inclusive consensus building and coordination on key policies, programmes and strategies within the context of agriculture, food security and nutrition, and rural development; Co-Chair of the Food Security Cluster: a platform and coordination mechanism to improve food security responses in humanitarian crisis situations

Lessons learnt • The huge potential of TCPf: Immediate response to government and support for investment ►Developement for Southern Master Plan ► Development of Integrated Agricultural Programme for the Hill Tracts ► Capacity Development of the Ministry of Environment and Forest • Partnering with other UN agencies do not confront: MDGf: FAO-WFP-UNICEF USAID: FAO-UNICEF FSC: FAO-WFP ECTAD: FAO-UNICEF-WHO UN REDD: FAO-UNDP

The future in Bangladesh ● Capacity Building of MoEF: New NFPCSP structure where USAID and DFID interested to fund to ensure whole positioning in the context of Climate Change ● As a result of lobbying with EU on EU-Rome based agencies MoU, the 2013 priority of FAO BD will be to build a strong partnership with EU which has identified Food Security as a top priority as of 2014 ● Implementation of the Southern Master Plan together with technical ministries (MoA, MoFL) where Dutch and USAID have interest ● Development of Integrated Agriculture for the Chittagong Hill Tracts (EU)

One FAO Integration of Emergencies and Development Programme as part of decentralization FAO Bangladesh Advantages - Strong linkages with the Government Trust on FAO by the technical ministries Excellent relationships with UN agencies and donors - Efficient delivery mechanisms: Effective structure: FAO representation office, Field project offices (Barisal. Khulna, Mymensingh, Hill Tracts) Project headquarters fully embedded within the line ministries (NFPCSP, Food safety, etc.)
