  2. When To APply • Applicants may start applying 2 to 3 months before graduation. • If an applicant has a misdemeanor or felony on their record, we request they apply at least 90 days prior. This will allow for time to review their conviction(s).

  3. WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR APRN LICENSURE? • Completed application – $165 • Official transcript • National Certification • State background check – AOC - $22 • Federal background check - • fingerprinting - $12.00 Paper application: • May request a paper application • Submit the request with a check or money order in the amount of $40 • KBN will then mail you the application. You must return with fee of $150

  6. CHOOSE APPLICABLE LINK … • Choose one of the following: • 2. I hold a current RN license in a compact state and am applying for my initial Kentucky APRN license. • 3. I hold a current Kentucky RN license and want to apply for my initial Kentucky APRN license.

WHEN CHOOSING LINK….CONT. • I hold a current RN license in Kentucky and am applying for my initial Kentucky APRN license. • Requirements: • APRN licensure application and fee, • Fingerprint card and fee, • Kentucky criminal history report, • Official transcript of post basic education, and • Proof of current national certification

  8. FEDERAL BACKGROUND CHECK (CONT) • Instruction sheets are provided with the fingerprint card • May do digital printing, but they are to be transferred onto fingerprint card. • Once complete, mail fingerprint card and fee of $12.00 made payable to Kentucky State Police to: • Kentucky State Police Records Branch 1266 Louisville Road Frankfort, KY 40601

Collaborative Agreements • CAPA-NS: APRN license must be issued before you can enter into the agreement • CAPA-CS: APRN must have been licensed in any state (or combination of states) as an APRN for a minimum of one year and have current Kentucky APRN licensure before you can enter into the CAPA-CS

  10. CAPA-NS • An APRN has prescriptive authority for non-scheduled drugs when: • A KY APRN license issued • They have entered into a CAPA-NS with a licensed KY physician • Submitted the Notification of a CAPA-NS form to KBN

  11. Specific Requirements of a CAPA-NS • The APRN who is prescribing nonscheduled legend drugs and the collaborating physician shall be qualified in the same or similar specialty (see KBN document defining “same or similar specialty”) • The Agreement is signed by both the APRN and the collaborating physician • A CAPA-NS… shall include the name, address, phone number, and license number of both the advanced practice registered nurse and each physician. It shall also include the specialty area of practice of the advanced practice registered nurse.

  12. CAPA-cS • An APRN has prescriptive authority for controlled substances when they have: • Been licensed as an APRN for at least one year • Entered into a CAPA-CS with a licensed KY physician • Submitted the Notification of a CAPA-CS form to KBN • Registered for a KASPER account • Provided a copy of their DEA license to KBN.

  13. NATIONAL CERTIFICATION • APRN’s must provide proof of current recertification each time they recertify. • If proof of current recertification is not provided to KBN prior to the certification expiration date, the APRN license will be invalidated and the APRN must apply for reinstatement of the APRN license. • NOTE: The APRN will not be allowed to practice as an APRN until the license has been fully reinstated.
