  1. The Future . . . Urban Grow Center Capital District Community Gardens has developed and dramatically expanded a network of programs to provide nutritional fresh food while encouraging self reliance in the Capital District for almost 40 years. Due to increasing demand for our current programs as well as to develop new ventures, we are creating a unique facility called the Urban Grow Center. This facility will increase our distribution of locally grown foods to inner city neighborhoods, innovate green technologies, and enhance economic development through job training programs to adults as well as under privileged youth. • Mission • To nourish healthy communities by providing access to fresh food and green spaces for all • ________________________________ • Our Vision • - A community garden plot is available for everyone who wants one, • - Fresh food within walking distance is an affordable and accessible option, and • Urban neighborhoods are filled with vibrant green spaces.

  2. In our current economic environment the need for these programs is expanding dramatically. Our new facility will allow increased distribution of healthy food to those in our urban food deserts. The Urban Grow Centerwill use urban agriculture as a means to promote learning, economic development and community well-being. Guided by principals of sustainability, thebuilding will feature green technologies developed and produced in Tech Valley, organic horticulture training and economic and social programs with a Regional focus.

  3. The building’s location provides easy regional access to the I-787 ramp. Its position in North Central is in keeping with CDCG’s service to inner-city neighborhoods and the creation of the Urban Grow Center could have a transformative effect on this area.

  4. Our new facility with its greenhouses and commercial kitchen will be used to expand entrepreneurial job training programs for local youth as well as under employed adults.
