  1. Auxin Brandon Vang &Jeff Luckey

  2. Effects of Auxin • Stimulates cell elongation • Alters gene expression causing the production of new proteins • Stimulates the response to the proteins expressing the different genes • Regulator of differential growth responses • Auxin can also cause secondary growth by increasing cambial activity. • Promotes fruit growth • Can inhibit or promote leaf and fruit abscission

  3. Hormones That Interact With Auxin • The hormones that interacts with auxin is ethylene. Ethylene is a hormone that inhibits elongation. Ethylene affects growth, development, ripening, and aging of a plant.

  4. Specific Tissues Auxin Targets • The tissues that Auxin mainly targets are the areas that are the xylem tissues. After the plant is cut and auxin is applied then after a few days a root will slowly start to grow.

  5. How Does Auxin Affect Certain Tissues • Auxin affects certain tissues by either killing the plant or giving the plant back it’s life. It can also make the fruit tissues healthy and normal. Can turn bad fruits to good fruits.

  6. Commercial That Promote Auxin • Auxin are used for vegetative propaganda. • Auxin Organic(type of fertilizer) • Auxin can also be used as herbicides such as: 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacteic(2,4-D), AAtrex, and Beacon • Flower Fertilizers such as: Doctor Earth, Miracle Grow, and Garden Naturals

  7. Additional Info About Auxin • Another name for Auxin is IAA (indoleacetic acid) • Auxin can be used as insecticide • Any area on a plant that is above the root can re-grow another root if auxin is applied • Monocots can activate synthetic auxin. An example of a monocot is turf grass. • Eudicots can take auxin but an overdose can kill the plant. An example of a eudicot is broadleaves. • 2,4-D Kills eudicots • Spraying a poor pollinating harvest with synthetic auxin can induce normal fruit development without the need of pollination. • Auxin was the first plant hormone discovered.
