  1. Part 5: Mobile fNIRS with NIRSport

  2. Noise-Performance Experiment The goal: 8-source/8-detector montage on the motor cortex. The subject will perform a variety of tasks to show data quality during movement.

  3. Video – fNIRS data quality during movement Click to watch video! NIRSport Video

  4. Explanation of setup NIRSportBackpack setup &Remote Desktop Connection

  5. Explanation of setup The NIRSport is connected to the Surface Tablet via a USB 2.0 connection. The two devices are put into the NIRSport backpack and the backpack is placed on the subject.

  6. Explanation of setup Direct WiFi Triggers and real-time viewing The subject is connected to the NIRSport and the backpack is secured. The scientist accesses the Surface Tablet within the backpack to view all real-time information and send manual triggers (if desired).

  7. Mobile Experiment The goal: setup a simple 8-source/8-detector montage on the motor cortex. Advanced goal: use remote desktop to wirelessly monitor recording!

  8. Mobile Experiment Open Folder: Experiments\8x8_bilateral_motor Advanced: Use Virtual Wifi Router and Remote Desktop Connection for wireless monitoring (contact support@nirx.net for directions)

  9. Explanation of setup Optode Montage/Array:

  10. We will use an 8-source/8-detector montage over the motor cortex D 8 D 4 S 2 S 6 D 5 D 1 S 1 S 5 S 4 S 8 D 7 D 3 D 2 D 6 S 3 S 7

  11. Sources used in measurement Steps used per full scan Detectors used in measurement Illumination pattern of sources firing per scan Scans per sec. (sampling rate/ temporal resolution) NIRStar Channel Setup Select “bilateral” for pattern

  12. The topolayout gives a simple 2D representation of the montage layout, facilitating easy viewing of channel activity. Numbering is issued with sources listed first, then detectors (e.g., 2-4 is source #2 paired with detector #4, etc.) NIRStar Topo Layout

  13. NIRStar Probe Setup Ultility The probe setup utility allows 3D visualization for activation.

  14. Time for Subject Preparation!
