    Historic Morristown, NJ

    Caitlin Selitto Comm. 115 March 19, 2009
  2. Morristown-National Historic Park During the Revolutionary War in 1777 and 1779-1780 George Washington set up his camp in Morristown. George Washington chose Morristown because it is close to New York City. The Ford Madison is where Washington made his headquarters. The national park consists of four parts: Washington’s Headquarters with the Ford Mansion and Headquarters Museum, the Fort Nonsense Unit, the Jockey Hollow Unit, and the New Jersey Brigade Area. The Jockey Hollow Unit includes the Wick house (headquarters of General Arthur St. Clair), five reconstructed soldier huts, and approximately 27 miles of walking trails. Caitlin Selitto
  3. Ford Madison Washington’s Headquarters at the Ford Mansion, part of the Morristown National Historical Park, is not remembered as a battlefield. Instead, the Continental general used the location as a defensive position near British-controlled New York City, 30 miles to the east. http://www.nj-realestate-agent.com/morristown-nj-it-is-time-to-visit-our-historic-sites/ http://img.groundspeak.com/waymarking/display/f8c21168-5b75-4d60-b2c5-160972d1392e.jpg Caitlin Selitto
  4. Fort Nonsense Built on a hill adjoining Morristown in May 1777, this hill throbbed with activity as Continental soldiers dug trenches and raised embankments. George Washington ordered the crest fortified as a strategic overlook above the town. The earthworks became known as Fort Nonsense because of a later legend that it had been built only to keep the troops occupied. http://www.ohwy.com/nj/f/ftnonsen.htm http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2255/2512908135_3a959657fd.jpg%3Fv%3D0&imgrefurl=http://flickr.com/photos/7355435%40N04/2512908135&usg=__TdklogVminkC-QnZvsyM3QeAGBI=&h=333&w=500&sz=204&hl=en&start=13&tbnid=a13ZhXhyogxptM:&tbnh=87&tbnw=130&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dfort%2Bnonsense%2Bnj%26gbv%3D2%26hl%3Den Caitlin Selitto
  5. Jockey Hollow The 1779-1780 winter at Jockey Hollow was the worst winter in over 100 years. Military camp conditions were so deplorable that many soldiers stole regularly just to eat, deserted or mutinied. Replica huts can be seen in the Jockey Hollow. http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2619838500031860892hHKJTX http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.ronsaari.com/stockImages/newJersey/WickHouseAutumn.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.ronsaari.com/slideShow.php%3Fgallery%3DnewJersey%26image%3DWickHouseAutumn.jpg%26selectedImage%3D&usg=__WWXys8-zh_2ygIjuToGSPBmHmII=&h=643&w=800&sz=198&hl=en&start=3&tbnid=knCL50mX2kCLQM:&tbnh=115&tbnw=143&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dhistoric%2Bmorristown%2Bjockey%2Bhollow%26gbv%3D2%26hl%3Den Caitlin Selitto
