  1. Find period for SGR 1627-41

  2. Outline • SGR 1627-41 • RXTE(Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer) • Data Reduction and Analysis • Result

  3. SGR 1627-41 • First observation: Ulysses on 1998 June 17 • RA, DEC 163552.00,-473514.0J2000 • associate with nearby SNR : SNR G337.0-0.1

  5. RXTE • RXTE(Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer) • Launch date: Dec. 30, 1995 • Delta II rocket • Orbit: low-earth orbit (about 600 km and 23 deg inclination) • Weight: 3,045 kg • The RXTE is maneuverable (6 deg/minute)

  6. Instrument • PCA (Proportional Counter Array) • HEXTE (The High Energy X-ray Timing Experiment) • ASM (All-Sky Monitor) • EDS (Experiment Data System)

  7. PCA • The PCA is an array of five proportional counters with a total collecting area of 6500 square cm. The instrumental properties are: • Energy range: 2 - 60 keV • Energy resolution: < 18% at 6 keV • Time resolution: 1 microsec • Spatial resolution: collimator with 1 degree FWHM • Detectors: 5 proportional counters • Collecting area: 6500 square cm • Layers: 1 Propane veto; 3 Xenon, each split into two; 1 Xenon veto layer • Sensitivity: 0.1 mCrab • Background: 2 mCrab • Events detected by the PCA will be processed on board by the EDS before insertion into the telemetry stream

  9. [50145-01-00-02] • 3.944k sec • 637k events

  10. Data reduction • Use XDF to find your Event-mode datafiles • Convert GoodXenon1&2 into FITS • Examine the filter file • Create a bitmask • Extract a light curve • Correct for deadtime

  11. Use XDF to find your Event-mode datafiles >XDF >put GoodXenon1_xx, GoodXenon2_xx >make file list ==>fits_files.xdf

  12. Convert GoodXenon1&2 into FITS >make_se >fits_files.xdf ==>event_gx0

  13. Examine the filter file • PCUn_ON • NUM_PCU_ON • ELV • OFFSET • TIME_SINCE_SAA • ELECTRONn

  14. Create a bitmask >sefilter M-token [M[1]{1}]> E[VPR]>n D[0:4]{3}>n E[0:63]{6}>1,2 • ==>event_gx0.bit, event_gx0.fits

  15. Extract a light curveCorrect for deadtime • the dead time per event is approximately 10 microseconds for good xenon, propane and coincident events => it need not to do deadtime correction, when count rates << 10^5 count/sec
