DESCRIPTION

Gerald R. Ford, born in 1913 in Omaha, Nebraska, served as the 38th President of the United States after his election on August 9, 1974. A Republican, he was notable for being the only president not elected to the office either as president or vice president. A star football player and a good student at Grand Rapids High School, Ford turned down an NFL contract to pursue a law degree. He is remembered for being the first sitting president to visit Japan. Ford passed away on December 26, 2006.
