  3. What is KTP ? Knowledge Transfer Partnerships(KTP) is Europe's leading programme for helping businesses to improve their competitiveness and productivity through the better use of knowledge, technology and skills that reside within the UK knowledge base

  4. What are KTPs? • Projects of strategic importance to the company • Must be academically challenging for the university. • Between 18 and 36 months duration. • Graduate employed to undertake project work, • Academic supervision of approx. ½ day per week.

  5. How do they work? • A Company has an important strategic project, but not the necessary skills or expertise • A Graduate with the right skills but not the expertise • The University provides the expertise • Through the Graduate, the University’s experience is transferred and embedded within the Company

KTP Funding Government funding for KTPs comes from over 17 different sponsors including: • Arts & Humanities Research Council • Biotechnology & Biological Research Council • Dept for the Environment • Dept for Health • Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (was the DTI) • Economic & Social Research Council • Engineering and Physical Science Research Council • Natural Environment Research Council • Welsh Assembly • Scottish Executive • RDAs (incl SWRDA)

  15. SWRDA Funding “The South West RDA is considering the sponsorship of KTPs in the South West, focusing on improving resource efficiency in the region's businesses.” “Key Sectors” - incl. tourism, food & drink

  16. ESRC Funding ”The ESRC has a remit across all sectors of the economy and society. However, priority will be given to business partnership in the following key sectors: Energy, Financial Services, Consultants/Intermediaries, Health Technologies, Retailing, Creative Industries, and Sport*, Leisure and Tourism ”        • Annual £1.2M for KTP projects. • The targets for 2008/08 are: 8 new partnerships with private sectors at 50% sponsorship 8 new partnership in the public sector at 50% sponsorship 4 new partnerships in the third sector at 100% or up to 8 of co-sponsorship is secured. [The other 50% comes from the Technology Strategy Board (TSB)]
