  4. Pre-AP and Accelerated ClassesPre-AP English and History Accelerated Math and Science • Any 6th grade student currently in Pre-AP and/or Accelerated classes with a a final year average of 80 or above may stay in these classes in the 7th grade.

  5. Pre-AP/Accelerated Classes • If a 6th grade student is not currently in Pre-AP classes and/or accelerated classes and would like to be, they will be screened using a district rubric to qualify.

  7. 7th Grade Texas History 7th grade Regular History • Students will identify the major regions of Texas and influences • Students will gain knowledge of the development of the state of Texas from the prehistoric era to modern day Texas. • European exploration, Spanish mission building, Anglo colonization, revolution, and republic and statehood will be studied.

  8. 7th Grade Pre-AP Texas History 7th grade Pre-AP/GT History Instruction will be differentiated, supplemented or replaced to facilitate higher learning goals. Students will be provided alternate challenging learning experiences to reflect the accelerated learning pace and advanced intellectual processes of gifted learners.

  9. 7th Grade Math • Regular 7th grade Math • Accelerated 7th grade Math *Compacted curriculum (1 ½ years) *Rigorous pace to prepare students for Algebra

  11. Physical Education Credits • One year of a P.E. credit is required in 7th grade.

CREDIT Requirements Dance Uniform- $15.00 No Jewelry Hair up DANCE UNITS Ballet Modern Jazz Choreography Dance is a beginning class that incorporates terminology, history, and technique at the beginning level. Students will participate in the study of ballet, modern, jazz, and innovated dance styles. The course also teaches leadership skills, personal responsibility, decision making, social skills, communication skills, goal-setting, and more.

  14. LOTC • Leadership Officer’s Training Corps is an elective class (can also be used for PE credit) where the emphasis of character development and citizenship are taught and implemented.

Touch System Data Entry • High school credit will be given. • All 7th grade students are required to take Touch System Data Entry • Student to apply technical skills to address business applications of emerging technologies • Students enhance reading, writing, computing, communication and reasoning skills and apply them to a business environment. • Emphasis will be on increasing touch system data entry for production of business documents.

  18. Health and Human Services • Students will address content such as a positive self image, nutrition, wellness, personal appearance, managing multiple roles and career options. • This course is to provide students with a foundation for success in high school, future studies and careers.

  19. Principles of Information Technology (1 semester) • High School Credit Class • Students develop technology skills to prepare for high school and college and compete in today’s technologically savvy world. • Students learn project management using these skills sets: photo editing, audio editing, music creation, video editing, basic CAD, and MS Office and more!

Exploring Careers • Students will be guided through the process of investigation and development of a college and career achievement plan. • Students will use an interest inventory to explore areas of personal interest. • Students will use this information to explore educational requirements for a variety of chosen career paths.

  21. Business, Finance, and Marketing • Students will examine consumer issues regarding money and money management, banking system and services, paychecks and taxes, rights and responsibilities. • Students will implement personal and interpersonal skills to strengthen individual performance in the workplace and in society and to make a successful transition to the workforce and/or postsecondary education.

Tomball Junior High Bands • Honor Band performs the most difficult level of music. • Symphonic Band performs moderately difficult level of music. • Concert Band generally performs the easiest level of music. • Beginner Band is for students with no previous band experience Band assignments for next year will be made in the Spring of this year, and students are grouped according to ability.

  27. Tomball Junior High Orchestras • Honor Orchestra:This orchestra is comprised of students with exemplary musical ability, citizenship and grades. Honor orchestra performs the most difficult level of music. • Concert Orchestra:This orchestra performs moderately difficult music and consists of students with good to average music ability, citizenship and grades. Concert orchestra is the default class for students that started orchestra in the 6th grade. • Sinfonietta: This class performs the easiest level of music. Sinfonietta is also for beginner orchestra students with no experience. We will teach you everything you need to know! Auditions for placement next year will be at the end of the current school year.

TJHS AWARD-WINNING CHOIR (full year elective) • Develop a life-long love of music. • Develop relationships with a positive-motivated peer group. • Take trips to Astros games, hayrides and cookouts, San Antonio and Fiesta Texas, Solo & Ensemble Contest, UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Contest, Concerts, and much more! • Develop vocal skills.

  31. Creative Writing Creative Writing is a one semester course that focuses on student created biographies, short stories, poetry and narrative essays.

  32. **** ALL students are open to audition for play productions. Thus, you do not have to be in Theatre I or II to audition for plays. Theatre I In all Theatre Arts classes, the student will learn to be self-confident as they build and expand on their theatrical talents. The student will explore: Theatre History The Acting Process Play Analysis Style in Theatre Musical Theatre Design/Tech Theatre II

  33. Exploring Languages • The focus is on Spanish, French, Italian and German. • We like to have fun, experiment, and experience how different languages compare to our own language.

  34. Introduction to Spanish This class is a semester long elective class designed to give students a working knowledge of basic Spanish vocabulary and grammar. It is open to all students in the seventh and eight grades. This class is not a prerequisite to Spanish I and is not a high school credit.

  35. Music Appreciation • Students develop an appreciation for music through the introduction of various aspects including singing, performing, reading and notating music, composing, arranging, improvising, listening and evaluating music and music performances.

  36. Number Sense Number Sense is a class for students who enjoy a challenge. Number sense shortcuts and TI83 calculator skills are taught so that students can compete in UIL and TMSCA competitions. Memorization of the shortcuts is a mandatory requirement and grades are given based on improvement of practice test scores.

Official Course Selection Sheet • Please ask your child for their completed course selection sheet. • Review it. • Make sure they have numbered their electives from 1-5 in order of their preference. • Make changes as needed by February 15, 2012. • Turn in changes to your current school counselor.
