黃玉階. 生平 :   黃玉階 （ 1850 年－ 1918 年），字蓂華，清道光三十年（ 1850 ）四月二十五日生於彰化縣大肚堡（今臺中市梧棲區）。原籍福建泉州，其先祖於乾隆間渡海來臺，營商為業。玉階少好學，曾讀經史，於 1870 學習 中醫， 1876 開始 執業， 1882年 全家遷至臺 北 大稻埕 經營 醬菜坊，並繼續從事中醫 。 1895 年 ， 日治時期 開始後，他繼續在醫界服務，並於 1897年 正式取得日本政權發給的中醫師執照。. 事蹟 ：

  1. 黃玉階 • 生平:   黃玉階（1850年－1918年），字蓂華，清道光三十年（1850）四月二十五日生於彰化縣大肚堡（今臺中市梧棲區）。原籍福建泉州，其先祖於乾隆間渡海來臺，營商為業。玉階少好學，曾讀經史，於1870學習中醫，1876開始執業，1882年全家遷至臺北大稻埕經營醬菜坊，並繼續從事中醫。1895年，日治時期開始後，他繼續在醫界服務，並於1897年正式取得日本政權發給的中醫師執照。

  2. 事蹟： • 黃玉階對台灣社會最大貢獻在於推動台灣社會現代化。他於1900年(明治33年)創立台北天然足會，被認為是廢除台灣女子纏足的關鍵公益團體。台北天然足會是台灣日治時期的一個社會團體，創立主要目的在推廣台灣境內的「解纏足」民間運動，以台北淡水館成立的揚文會成員為主要成員，初創人數約為40名，社團組成份子主要為地方士紳、商人等中、上階層人士。由於當時主要由台灣社會精英組成的天然足會成員普遍認為「女子纏足」是阻礙台灣進步的因素之一，也主張應讓女子上學接受教育。
