Key Statistics • Turnover circa £2.6m • 6 sites (Balsall Heath, Nechells (2), Sutton Coldfield, Quinton, Washwood Heath) • 60 paid staff and circa 15 volunteers • Circa 2-300 advice and guidance clients • Approximately 150 apprentices/work placements/year • Mostly 16-24 • 67% male, 33% female, 66% BME • Up to 60 concurrent work placements

  19. Key Statistics • Around 60,000 households are homeless • Over 13m people live in poverty (<60% median income) • Unemployment now 2.57m • Youth unemployment is 21.3%

Key Statistics • There are over 80,000 people in prison • 58.2% of short sentenced adult offenders re-offend within 12 months • The annual cost of re-offending is between £9.5bn and £13bn • Re-offending rate of offenders with jobs is 32% • Securing employment is intrinsic to offenders living free of crime

  26. Birmingham City Council Supply small sites (suitable for building 3-6 units) Provide architectural and planning services Purchase 50% of completed homes as social housing Assist with sourcing sustainable employment destinations for project beneficiaries

Midlands Together CIC Raised £3m through a social bond issue Fund development costs and sell Employ Jericho Construction and jointly employ ex-offenders who will be involved in the construction process Sell the completed properties and re-invest the original capital, plus any profits, back into the business

Jericho Construction • Act as Main Contractor for the construction project • Jointly employ ex offenders and/or NEET young people working along side skilled tradespeople and operatives • Deliver mentoring and personal development support via Jericho Foundation’s client support team • Broker accredited training where appropriate • Support beneficiaries to move into sustainable employment

Target Outcomes and outputs • 10 new houses per year constructed with a minimum of 5 becoming social housing • 6-10 ex offenders per year provided with paid employment, coaching and mentoring and skill development • 4 houses per year purchased by individuals who would otherwise be unable to access the property market • Reoffending rate of beneficiaries reduced to 10% • Savings to MOJ of circa £280k per year • Savings to BCC/DWP of circa £40k per year • Increased exchequer revenues through income tax
