Overview • This Web Quest is designed for 3rd grade students. • It fulfills the Social Studies SOL objective 3.11 The student will explain the importance of the basic principles that form the foundation of a republican form of government by ……c) identifying the accomplishments of ….Martin Luther King Jr.

  3. Introduction • Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the main leaders in the American Civil Right’s Movement. He delivered his famous “I Have A Dream” speech with hopes to promote equal treatment for all human beings.

  4. Task • How would you feel about Dr. King if you were there when he gave his famous “I Have A Dream” speech? What would it be like to live during this time? • You will be divided into four groups. Each group will have one of the following roles: • Group #1: Owner of the town grocery store • Group #2: A newspaper reporter • Group #3: A bus driver • Group #4: A follower of Dr. King ~ It’s the day of the speech. Describe how you are feeling, what’s going on around you, and what you think will happen next. Be sure to include facts in your description, for example, dates, people, cities.

  5. Process • The first step is to learn all you can about this time period. What is Dr. King fighting for? How do people feel about this?
