Carry that Weight • How many Technicians • Are the expert in their field at Northumbria • Have had training in passing on their knowledge • Lead practical sessions without an academic • Take part in assessment – marking • Are “expected” to do all this • Would like to do this • How do we quantify & prove this

What do theirs do • Adding value to role • Better quality support • Better quality of working life • In house training • Inter, intra School • Open day • Network • Show off facilities and skills

Here Comes the Sun • PCAPL replacement – PG-HEP • Postgraduate Certificate – Higher Education in Practice • Replacement will be • More flexible - personalised • Based centrally (workshops) and in Schools (WbL) • Accredited hence Quality Controlled – Browne implications • New academic training programme • Could be available to teaching technicians – you are part of the teaching team !

The Long & Winding Road • 2011-12 • New academic staff will pilot the programme • This will allow programme and technical managers • To gauge the level of interest from technical support • To consider the requirements & role of a “teaching technician” • To consider how to run scheme with technical staff • To consider the appropriate content • Interested ?
