Domain name registration under .si ccTLD(Country Code Top Level Domain) • ARNES (Academic and Research Network of Slovenia is a registry for Slovenia • Arnes is a non-profit public institution • Arnes is a member of CENTR (Council of European National TLD registries (Barbara Povše Golob is a member of Executive Committee of CENTR) • No problems concerning Domain Name registrations http://www.gov.si/mid

Domain name registration under .si ccTLD • No regulative needed and foreseen • Domain Name registration is a local matter • The need for global forum for a dialog, no need for binding global policies • Dialog facilitated by ICANN IP addresses • IP addresses provided by RIPE http://www.gov.si/mid

  11. .si registration in the future • local internet community decided for more liberal rules • liberalisation expected begining 2004 • first come first served registration • registry/registrar system will be introduced • registration/renewal fee will be introduced • Alternative Dispute Resolution Procedure has been prepared in cooperation with Faculty of Law, Ljubljana University and will be introduced at liberalisation http://www.gov.si/mid

IPv6 introduction • ARNES has 2x622 Mbit/s connection to the Pan-european research network GEANT managed by DANTE • ARNES joined the Ipv6 introduction activities in 2002 • a joint effort by ARNES, DANTE, RedIRIS and Juniper in testing static IPv6 resulted in LSR (Land Speed Record) http://www.gov.si/mid

  17. IPv6 conclusions • IPv6 forwarding in GÉANT comparable with IPv4 • no problems observed on double-stacked Juniper routers • much more to be done to deploy IPv6 in the near future (dynamic routing, management etc) http://www.gov.si/mid

Overall conclusions • Much more to be done to broaden Slovenian IP networks (Governmental broadband policy needed to meet Information Society objectives) • No problems concerning Domain Name registrations, liberalisation expected in 2004 • Joined effort in testing and further introduction of Ipv6 http://www.gov.si/mid
