Who- Thomas Jefferson, William H. Crawford, and Andrew Jackson Details- Originally the Democratic-Republican party but they split up. President Andrew Jackson gave it its name. Now one of the two big political parties in the U.S. Significance- It was Democratic presidents that helped the country out of the Great Depression and led the country through 2 world wars. DEMocrats
Who- John Quincy Adams, Abraham Lincoln, and John C. Fremont Significance- One of two major political parties in our government Details- This party was important in abolition, free speech, and the gaining of women’s suffrage. It is known as the G.O.P. It became a national party in 1856 by nominating John C. Fremont. It is the more conservative of the two parties. It stared with people who opposed slavery. This party nominated Abraham Lincoln. Term of Office- March 4, 1797 to March 3,1801. XYZ Affair- President Adams sent 3 envoys to France to negotiate a new agreement. French minister demanded a personal bribe and loan to France. When The affair became public, the American people demanded war. The presidency of John adams
Who-James Madison Significance-He attempted to enforce the Non-Intercourse Act. In 1810 Macon’s Bill No.2 was passed that repealed the Non-Intercourse Act and instead said that whichever nation would stop harassing American ships would be favored and the U.S. would stop trading with the other nation. In the end, Madison attempted to follow the Constitution and tried not to overstep the boundaries set before him as he interpreted them.
