  1. BrokennessRoad to Renewal Made Whole By the Advocate 1 John 2:1-2 October 25, 2009

  2. Humpty Dumpty Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. All the king's horses, And all the king's men, Couldn't put Humpty together again.

  3. 1 John 1:7-9 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

  4. He told us how by the age of ten he thought Christianity was about sin and that by the time he was fifteen he was having “glimpses into the abyss of depression,” accompanied by fears of divine vengeance for his “unameable secret crimes,” fears that kept growing for the next thirty years. His Christianity gave him no help. “When I looked at the cross, with its suffering victim, its only message to me was, ‘You did this – and there is no health in you!’”

  5. 1 John 2:1-2 1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.

  6. 1 John 4:10 10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. “God does not love us because Christ died for us, Christ died for us because God loves us.” John Stott

  7. “It is in the substitutionary death of Christ that sin is overcome and wrath averted, so that God can look at man without displeasure and man can look at God without fear. Sin is expiated and God is propitiated.” -David Wells

  8. 1 John 2:1-2 1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.
