  2. The four kinds: • Sentences are categorized by what they do. Whether they ask questions, give orders, state facts, or display emotion, all sentences can be categorized into one of the following: • The Declarative Sentence • The Interrogative Sentence • The Exclamatory Sentence • The Imperative Sentence

  3. The Declarative sentence DECLARE: announce something clearly, state something formally • . Makes A Statement • . Ends with a PERIOD. • I’ve seen that movie. • The boy pulled the cat’s tail.

  4. The interrogative sentence INTERROGATE: question someone thoroughly • . Asks a Question • . Ends with a QUESTION MARK • How old is that building? • Are you going to eat that?

  5. The exclamatory sentence EXCLAIM: to cry out or speak suddenly • . Shows A Strong Feeling • . Ends with an EXCLAMATION POINT • The house is on fire! • The monster is attacking!

  6. The imperative sentence IMPERATIVE: a command, absolutely necessary or required • . Gives A Command • Cheryl, shut the door. • Stop hitting him.
