Polish pharmacist and petroleum industry pioneer : 1853 he invented the modern kerosene lamp 1853 he introduced the first modern street lamp in Europe and the construction of the first oil well in Poland (1854). 1856he built the first oil refinery in the world; among his other achievements were the discovery of how to distill kerosene from seep oil

  4. Kerosene lamp In 1853 Ignacy Łukasiewicz together with Jan Zeh, was thefirstin the world to distill clear kerosene from seep oil. The first oil lamp in the world appeared in the streets of Lwów (Ukraine) in March 1853.

  5. The kerosene lamp (widely known in Britain as a paraffin lamp) is a type of lighting device that uses kerosene(British "paraffin", as distinct from paraffin wax) as a fuel. Kerosene lamps have a wick or mantle as light source, protected by a glass chimney or globe; lamps may be used on a table, or hand-held lanterns may used forportable lighting.

  15. The inventor of bulletproof vest. A bulletproof vest is a special dress made in the form of more or less resembling a vest, designed to protect against bullets fired from a gun like a pistol, a rifle and a shotgun.

  16. The power of bullet was absorbed in the successive layers of fabric the vest was made of. The material used in the production of the vest was silk - as there was no other known with a higher fibers strength. The design of the bulletproof vest consisted of several layers of densely woven silk impregnated with a special substance ( it’s name was kept as a secret for many years). Szczepanik’s invention was patented in 1897.
