  2. What is iHelp? • Informal support for Media Production Students at UWTSD

  3. Why do we need iHelp? • Technical software issues • Student are less confused on where to go to get answers because we can be their first port of call • We have both been through a converging media course we have a wide knowledge base

Why do we need iHelp? • Student perspectives on technology - demand, perceptions and training needs - Report to HEFCE by NUS • “all students should be offered training needs analysis of their ICT skills at the start of their programme to identify their training requirements. This could include an online test to identify skills gaps in common software packages like word, excel, graphics design packages and other products, such as Dreamweaver, InDesign, Endnote and Flash.” Demand Perceptions and Training Needs - Report to HEFCE by NUS - October 2010

  5. Why do we need iHelp? • Between us we have expertise in: • Photoshop • InDesign • Flash • Dreamweaver • Illustrator • Autodesk Maya • Final Cut Pro • Motion • Color • The VR Works • Final Draft • Wordpress • Audacity • iWeb • DVD interface design using DVD Studio Pro and iDVD.

What has iHelp helped to create? • Digital Media in Practice (DMiP) • Students are guided through the complete range of software they will use throughout their degree • Open, creative and liberating approach to sharing and discussing ideas. • Wordpress Blogs • We can monitor the information students have, want and need • iHelp can deliver this information

What has iHelp helped to create? • DMiP offers a regular assessment and feedback loop through a medium the students understand and relate to • Students are creating a diary of their progression though their degrees, a point of reference for themselves and potential employers as it acts as a portfolio piece too • It encourages the students to discuss their work with each other using their blogs as a medium to do so • Introduces students to the idea of self promotion • External examiners

  9. How has DMiP affected iHelp? • Students have a lot more confidence in us • The informality has changed
