Northern Region Update: FY-09 Strategic Focus • Planning workshop developed 6 Goals to meet FY-09 Strategic Focus • Goal #1 – Improve NRO Asset Preservation and Maintenance • Goal #2 – Improve NRO Mobility and Safety • Goal #3 – Improve NRO Emergency Management and Security • Goal #4 – Expand NRO Asset Coverage and Functionality • Goal #5 – Improve ITS / Operations Coordination and Efficiency • Goal #6 – Improve the NRO Business Process • Outcome - Prioritized projects were identified to meet the objectives needed to achieve NRO's goals

Northern Region Opportunities • Shoulder Lane Control System Upgrade • I-66 from I-495 to US 50 planning to be complete in May, 2008 • Next Generation Traffic Management (e.g. VSL, Queue Warning) • Planning for the active traffic management on I-66 from I-495 to US 50 to start in July 2008 • Implement ITS Device and Telecommunications Master Plans • DMS Phase 1: I-66 from DC to US 50 excluding WB inside beltway design: April, 2008 • Develop Phased-in projects involving DMS, CCTV, and Detections • Migrate DMS and Detection onto the IP telecomm network • Extend fiber telecommunication network

Northern Region Opportunities (cont.) • CCTV Freeway System Analytics • DMS Travel Time Program Deployment • Metropolitan Area Transportation Operation Coordination (MATOC) • Enhancement of Real-time Freeway Performance Monitoring System • Integrated Network (and Corridor) Management Concept of Operations • VDOT NRO Safety Service Patrol Expansion • Next Generation Traffic Signal Control System Feasibility Study
