  1. GEM Practitioners Network 2nd GEM Global Exchange November 28 – 30, 2009 Ubud, Indonesia Lenka Simerska

  2. What is the GEM Practitioners Network The GEM Practitioners Network is a network of individuals and organizations, who apply GEM and want to learn more about gender and ICT evaluations. The Network aims to enhance GEM expertise, and build partnerships in order to incorporate a gender perspective in evaluation of ICT initiatives, and to promote gender accountability in global, regional, national and local ICT policies and initiatives. • Members: adaptors, evaluators, ICTD practitioners, researchers; organisations and individuals who use GEM or have used GEM in the past; those interested in evaluation from a gender perspective; those interested in addressing gender and ICT issues. • PN has been introduced towards the end of the phase 1 of GEM in 2005 • Came out from a need of the first testers of GEM and all users of GEM who wanted to stay is touch and exchange • The 1st GEM Global Exchange in 2007 dedicated time to defining the network’s needs

  3. Where does the PN live • f2f Exchanges • mailing list GEM-xchange and adaptor’s thematic mailing lists • GEM Adaptations Ning space [http://adaptinggem.ning.com/] –designed especifically for needs of the adaptations process to share, collaborate, and document. It’s a space where live evaluation projects have been meeting. Functioned in a specific time period. • At the newly created myGEM space

  4. What is myGEM One of three parts of GEM portal www.genderevaluation.net GEMworks: the manual of the methodology in different languages, research, guides myGEM: social networking space for the GEM Practitioners Network GEMsolutions: business, GEM services

  5. Exploring myGEM • Lets take a tour through myGEM • Lets create member accounts Creative task: While filling in your profiles, think about what other information (if any) you would like to know about GEM PN members. Think about the social, as well as professional networking and learning aspects of the site. What questions about the use of GEM should we add to the profile (if any at all)? Please take into consideration that the Ning Adaptations space had a more detailed section within each profile specifically about the use of GEM. This was possible because the adaptations process allowed for live projects to take part in the space. It might not always be the case with the myGEM site.

  6. Adding your content to myGEM Creative task: Make a blog entry about the DST or the first impressions about the Exchange (reflecting the first half day of it). If you are already blogging somewhere else, think about whether you can republish the relevant entries to myGEM and whether you could be doing so on regular basis. (20 mins) Creative task for tomorrow: Go through the Adaptations Ning space and the content you’ve created there and think about what from there you would like to share on myGEM. You can already start uploading this content to myGEM. If you cannot do it (need to relax after the day is finished or have other tasks to do), just make a list (written or in your head) to tell us tomorrow.
