  7. Each program requires you to earn a certain number of credits (at least 120) • Each course is worth a certain number of credits • Credits= contact hours per week, but not always! • Typical courses carry 3 credits but range from 1-6 credits • Typical course load = 15 credits Credit System

  8. Full-time: • A student carrying 12 or more credit hours per quarter • Overload – more than 18 credit hours. Students need special permission to carry an overload • Part-time: • A student carrying fewer than 12 credit hours per quarter Student Status

Major Courses (For Depth) • Core Courses - required • Technical/Professional/Major Electives • General Education (For Breadth) Some required by your major, some you can choose • Liberal Arts (9) • UWRT 150 Writing required by ALL • History, Literature, Philosophy, Economics, Sociology, etc. • Math/Science (at least 4) • Electives • Free Electives - ANY university credit-bearing course The Academic Program

  11. Co-op= Cooperative Education • = opportunities to gain meaningful work experience before graduation • Full-time, paid employment directly related to your field of study • 10-15 weeks long Co-Op

  13. Add/Drop • First week of every term where you can add and drop courses without any penalty. You can visit classes you’re not registered in to help you decide. • Late Add • To add a course after the add/drop deadline, you must receive permission from the instructor. • Withdrawal • To drop a course after the add/drop deadline, you will receive a grade of “W” on your transcript. This does not affect your GPA, but is permanently on your record. You can only withdrawal until the 12th week of the semester. Terminology and Deadlines
