  1. NIDMAR & CDMP: Impact and experience of training and certification Cheryl Tudor: Sept 2013

  2. Why I completed the NIDMAR units: • In 2009, had worked as OT for 10 years, five of these in VR services • Had made the connection between good work and good health • On secondment from NHS Lothian to an employability service – supporting unemployed people to find and sustain work • Most had experience of work – not always good, which added additional barriers to work • Led to reflections – could I have done more / what?

  3. NIDMAR • Completed six units, these developed my knowledge and skills specifically in: - Job analysis - Understanding the return to work process - The key personnel involved / roles / boundaries - The value of utilising a case management approach, based on biopsychosocial principles • New learning was integrated into my existing role, of supporting clients to gain and sustain work placements as a stepping stone towards work.

  4. Post NIDMAR – what happened next: • I successfully passed the CDMP exam and gained certification • I successfully gained a position within a job retention service (as a case manager and mental health occupational therapist) • I developed a new role within the existing service, and brought a range of tools and resources to augment existing practice • This has led to a number of key professional developments…
