Understanding Asynchronous Online Interviews and Image Elicitation Techniques
This resource explores the concept of asynchronous online interviews, where interviewers and respondents interact without being present at the same time. Commonly conducted via email or forum messaging, these interviews offer advantages such as cost-effectiveness and accessibility, allowing respondents to reflect on their answers. However, they can suffer from loss of momentum and potential delays. The document also touches on photo elicitation, highlighting the vast number of photos shared on platforms like Instagram and Facebook, emphasizing the importance of visual materials in qualitative research.

What is an asynchronous online interview? Any interview conducted online, where the interviewer and respondent are not co-located in time and space. Most common form is email, though may include forum messaging or similar. • Advantages: • Cheap • Accessible for anyone new to digital methods • Potential for respondents to reflect and reply at their leisure. • Disadvantages: • Easy to lose momentum • Issue of clarification if something is unclear • In some cases, they can take a long time if there are delays Reference: N.
