  1. WebQuest: Building A Home8th Grade Math & Art Application Corinne McKenna

  2. What Does it Take to Effectively Build a House? Your task is to work together in groups of 4 (architect, builder, interior designer, and home owner) to construct and design a home. You will have a certain budget and the roles that each member will play will impact how decisions are made. You will then present to the class the decisions you made, why you made certain decisions, and your final product (which can be drawn or actually constructed with a material of your choice). Your group will have four weeks to complete this project and then group presentations will begin.

  3. Guidelines for Building & Designing Budget = $1,000,000 Area to build house (garage, yard included) = ½ acre of land (43, 560 ft2)

  4. Roles Architect: This person will produce the plans for the home that will be built. They must take into account the area that can be used and what the home owner wants. Builder: This person has the job of figuring out what building supplies they need, plumbing and electricity needs, and hiring crews to complete the job. Interior Designer: This person will make decisions when it comes to how the home will be decorated once the building portion is complete. They will be in charge of adding furniture and painting the rooms. Home Owner: This person will contribute to all parts of the home construction and design. They will have a say in all the decisions that are made for the entire process. If they do not approve of a decision, it should not be done.
