The Growth of Water Purifiers in the US and Canada

Good news for the water purifier market in terms of growth, certainly for the market on the North American continent. It is expected to grow 10.5% although this is from the period of 2016 u2013 2022. It may be that this has slightly been affected by the current pandemic but with more online sales, the market remains buoyant in testing times.<br>

  3. The Growth of Water Purifiers in the US and Canada Good news for the water purifier market in terms of growth, certainly for the market on the North American continent. It is expected to grow 10.5% although this is from the period of 2016 – 2022. It may be that this has slightly been affected by the current pandemic but with more online sales, the market remains buoyant in testing times.

  4. The Market One of the biggest factors in driving sales is disposable income. As people consider health concerns from water pollution or even waterborne diseases, the appeal of water purifiers increases. Another factor which is more negative is how prevalent water purifiers are in rural markets; in short, they do less well in this environment due to lack of information or awareness of aspects such as health, even sanitation. However, this is more of an issue in Asian countries than it is on the North American continent. As Canada contains a whopping 20% of the world’s freshwater (guessing the Great Lakes really help here!) and 7% of the world’s renewable water; there is a drive to be more environmentally friendly there and look at the benefits of water purification both domestically and commercially. And in the US as a standalone, the market was expected to grow by 6.4% up to 2020 but this might be changed in the current climate.

  5. Benefits The good thing about water purifiers is their undeniable benefit in removing harmful components such as chemicals and gases from the water, toxins, bacteria, suspended solids and fungi. This means the water is not only safe for drinking but has little or none of the above biological components in bottling. In the US, public utility water systems supply most of the water but concerns over clean drinking water have driven the market for water purifiers. The MidWest region accounts for most sales, followed by Western. The benefits of affordable water purifiers have made it easier to consider a purchase with some of the price ranges detailed below. In Canada, 2 instances of bacteria contaminated water in 2001 (Walkerton and North Battleford) allowed Canadians to become more aware of dangers such as E-coli and subsequently, the potential benefits of having a water purifier at home.

  6. With the continued growth of the water purifier market and greater understanding of price points, more households on the North American continent are aware of the benefits and with more and more companies offering ranges, it is much easier to find one that suits a consumer’s needs. As an example, you can easily peruse sites such as this which indicate good filters at present. Or simply look up a type of filter based on the information below and decide for yourself which best suits requirements.

  7. Types of water purifier When choosing, you can pick between RO Purifier, Gravity Purifier, UV Purifier, Universal and Reverse Osmosis. However, these cater for both the commercial and residential market and then you have sales outlets such as direct sales, online and retail stores. • Reverse Osmosis (RO) purifiers cut out salt water, dangerous metals but they do not eliminate bacteria. And they can waste water but don’t use electricity. • Gravity Purifiers have 2 separate chambers; they filter out contaminants and won’t run up your bill as they don’t require electricity. They are also portable and can the purifier can be replaced every few months.

  8. Universal filters get rid of both bacteria and germs, very effective at ‘cleaning’ the water. It does use electricity however, so it would be more expensive as an option than Gravity for example. • UF filters are like RO but more. You’ll be able to get rid of more germs and bacteria than a RO filter but it is bigger. However it does not require electricity to run, so it is also a less expensive option.

  9. Lastly, you have the UV purifier system. This really targets eliminating bacteria and it does not use any chemicals to do so. They conserve water better it should be noted that they don’t eliminate nitrate and excessive fluoride for example. UV, RO and Gravity based are the main purifiers available on the market for purchase so it may be prudent to look at the benefits of those 3 types in particular when deciding.

  10. Cost • You can buy a good RO system for around $200 (US). • Gravity are cheaper at anything from $40, maybe even less and you can scale up • UV purifiers vary, anything from cheap at $30 to the hundreds • UF purifiers seem a little more expensive at around anything from $250 upwards to much more • Universal filters also vary from very cheap $20 to the hundreds

  11. So picking a filter based on just price isn’t straightforward. You need to look into the different types to decide which best suits your needs. A good guide can be found here. Whatever water purifier you decide to buy, the sheer range of modern choices now, allow for the consumer to have much more choice than they might have in the past and have access to more information on what each type of filter can do. The market is buoyant – just like water itself!
