TC TORNADO RECORDING METHOD • FROM FINAL STORM DATA • Assigned to TCTOR database (1995-2011) • Uses sfc maps, UA maps and satellite data to verify that event occurred within envelope of TC or remnant • Interpolated HURDAT positions for AZRANs • Closest prior HURDAT classification (or sfc analysis if no HURDAT) for TC intensity/category at tornado time • See Edwards (2010) SLS Conference Preprint (SPC website == Publications) for details on methods and TCTOR dataset.

  3. OFCL 2010: The YEAR in TCTOR • 24 tornadoes from 2 TCs (Alex, Hermine) • T-5th lowest year of 1995-2011 era (avg=73) • All W of Mississippi River: TX=20 OK=3 AR=1 • 20 EF0 (83%) 3 EF1 (13%) 1 EF2 (4%) • 0 K, 2 Inj (Dallas area, Hermine)

  4. OFCL 2010: H ALEX 11 tornadoes in 3 days, 0 K, 0 Inj, $1.5 mil damage

  5. OFCL 2010: TS HERMINE 13 tornadoes in 2 days, 0 K, 2 Inj, $1.1 mil damage

PRELIMINARY 2011 REPORTS • PRELIMINARY = STILL SUBJECT TO CHANGE • Pending final Storm Data • Uses distance/time-filtered (5 mi & 5 min) reports to eliminate obvious dupes • ~53 with 3 TCs, number likely to DIMINISH • Do not take literally; instead look at general trends. • Final OFCL TCTOR available next year.
