  1. Unit 2 : Communication Techniques for Creative MediaProduction By Abbie Walker 27/1/2012

  2. What is the nature of the industry? • The nature of the photography industry is to supply pictures to the people that are going to buy magazines, papers and also on the internet. Photography can also document important events such as the Japanese Tsunami which happened In March 12th , or the Royal Wedding which took place on the 29th April 2011. Other events such as the World Cup 2010 or the or the Olympics 2012. Without photography we wouldn’t be able to see any of these events. Photography can also give us the chance to see other countries and different cultures. This is good because without seeing pictures, you wouldn’t know what other countries look like therefore you wouldn’t want to go and see it.

  3. What does it supply or offer? • Photography can supply a lot of things. The main thing that it can give to people is jobs and an income. Other than that it can give people memories of birthdays and weddings. It’s used for advertising new products that are coming out or of sports games. Photography is also used for many businesses, for science – crime scenes, manufacturing, art and other purposes. It can give you pictures in black and white or in colour.

  4. What type of other industries and or audiences does it supply to? • Photography can supply to many different industries and people. The main industries that It supplies to are normally papers, magazines and TV. Without pictures everything you watch would be boring because it would just be words. If they were like this then no-one would buy them. You can also see pictures on billboards or posters.

  5. What is the industry worth financially in the UK, Europe and globally? Photography in the globe is going to be worth around $230.9 billion in 2013. Its going up each year with more people passionately involved with photography. In 2007 $136.7 billion and in 2008 it was worth $155.0. Now more and more people are using cameras than before. The photography products are getting bought more and more and in 2007 it generated to $91.0 billion. As for the UK and Europe, you couldn’t find any figures on them. Over all the Photography industry is getting more popular and is going to be worth a lot in a couple of years.

  6. Where is its main hub of activity, UK, Europe and globally • I found out that most of the main company address's are in big cities. For example some are in USA in Washington, or Pairs, London and Amsterdam. I think they are in big cites because they would be more easy to find and write to than if they were in little places that no-one knows where they are.

  7. How many people does the industry employ in UK, Europe and globally • There are approximately 15,2000 people employed as a Photographers. Some work for sport, some work for papers and magazines and some work by there self as Portraits photographers That would include family pictures, weddings and birthdays. In the Uk there are around 43,000 photographers. In the Uk There are nearly 14,000 companies in the industry, of which 58% are photography,35% are retail, laboratories or image production companies ,5% are picture libraries and agencies and 3% are manufacturers or support services companies. Almost half of companies are sole traders or freelance photographers. I couldn't find any figures in Europe.
