  3. Glomerulus Proximal convoluted tubule Capillary hydrostatic pressure is very high here (about 60mmHg). Blood moves through glomerular capillaries, blood plasma (water, electrolytes*, glucose, NaCl, amino acids, urea), bicarbonate. Electrolytes include – Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Cl-, SO42-, PO42-, HCO3-, and H+ • Reabsorbs most of the water, sodium, and also K+, glucose, amino acids, bicarbonate. urea, Chloride, Na, Ca, Mg, Phosphate, Carboxylate. Secreted particles – Creatinine, antiobiotics, diuretics, Uric acid Collecting duct Without ADH the membrane is impermeable to water, but with ADH water is able to move through its membrane. Aldosterone makes duct permeable to sodium reabsorption. Reabsorbed particles – Water, bicarbonate, urea, sodium and chloride. Secreted particles – K+ Bowman’s capsule colloid osmotic pressure here is essentially zero

  4. Early Distal convoluted tubule • Macula densa is found here • Reabsorbed particles – NaCl, Ca and is • acted upon by parathyroid hormone. This area • Is sensitive to sodium channel blockers • like amiloride and aldosterone inhibitors. • Site of hormonallyregulated potassium • Secretion. Intercalated cells here • secrete hydrogen and make • “new” bicarbonate. Descending limb Late Distal convoluted tubule • secretion of sodium and urea and is permeable to water. Reabsorbed particles – NaCl, K, H2O, water, • Secreted particles - Urea Reabsorbed Particles – NaCl, H2O and is acted upon by aldosterone. Secreted particles – K, H+, Urea Thick Ascending Limb • Reabsorbed particles – NaCl, bicarbonate • Is sensitive to the diuretic furosemide (lasix). • This area is impermeable to water unless hormone allows it. Collecting duct • have the maximally • hyperosmotic fluid • when ADH levels • are high Reabsorbed particles – Mg, Ca Tubular fluid here is hyperosmotic to plasma, and is not hormone sensitive Loop of Henle (tip)
