  1. Foundations How do I fit in?

  2. Romans 12:4-8 • Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others…

  3. Two Truths to Remember • Every believer is a member of Christ's body. He is the Head. We belong to him and to each other.

  4. 1 Corinthians 12:4-31 • There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all people. 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

  5. Two Truths to Remember • Every believer is a member of Christ's body. He is the Head. We belong to him and to each other. • Every believer has spiritual gifts and a ministry (service) to carry out.

  6. 1 Corinthians 10:31 • So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

  7. What is our ministry? • Above all to glorify and serve God.

  8. 2 Peter 3:18 • But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

  9. Hebrews 5:13- 6:1 • Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 14 But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. 1 Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity.

  10. What is our ministry? • Above all to glorify and serve God. • To serve ourselves by growing through Word and Sacraments.

  11. Galatians 6:10 • Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

  12. What is our ministry? • Above all to glorify and serve God. • To serve ourselves by growing through Word and Sacraments. • To serve our fellow Christians (brothers and sisters)

  13. Galatians 5:13 • You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.

  14. What is our ministry? • To serve our fellow Christians (brothers) • By serving each other in love

  15. Hebrews 10:24-25 • And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

  16. Colossians 3:13-17 • Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity… 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

  17. What is our ministry? • To serve our fellow Christians (brothers) • By serving each other in love • By encouraging and teaching each other as we worship together

  18. Matthew 18:15-18 • If your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. But if he will not listen…

  19. What is our ministry? • To serve our fellow Christians (brothers) • By serving each other in love • By encouraging and teaching each other as we worship together • By disciplining one another in love

  20. James 5:16 • Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

  21. What is our ministry? • To serve our fellow Christians (brothers) • By serving each other in love • By encouraging and teaching each other as we worship together • By disciplining one another in love • By praying lovingly for each other in all things

  22. Galatians 6:10 • Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

  23. What is our ministry? • To serve our neighbor (fellow human being)

  24. Matthew 5:16 • In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

  25. What is our ministry? • To serve our neighbor (fellow human being) • By attracting them to God with our words and actions

  26. Acts 1:8 • But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

  27. What is our ministry? • To serve our neighbor (fellow human being) • By attracting them to God with our words and actions • By witnessing to them about Jesus

  28. 1 Timothy 2:1- 3 • I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-- 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior.

  29. What is our ministry? • To serve our neighbor (fellow human being) • By attracting them to God with our words and actions • By witnessing to them about Jesus • By praying for them lovingly

  30. 1 Corinthians 12 • Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant.

  31. 1 Peter 4:10-11 • Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

  32. How can we serve? • We want to recognize and use our gifts faithfully for the good of all.

  33. Ephesians 4:11-16 • It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up…

  34. How can we serve? • We want to recognize and use our gifts faithfully for the good of all. • We have pastors (shepherds) and teachers who train and equip us to serve one another.
