  1. OSPF WG meeting, IETF67 OSPF MANET Design Team Retrospective November 7, 2006 Tom Henderson {thomas.r.henderson@boeing.com}

  2. 2003/04 2005/06 2004/05 IETF 60 IETF 61 IETF 64 IETF 66 IETF 62 IETF 65 IETF 67 IETF 59 IETF 63 Timeline Draft Problem Statement (IETF 58) MANET Designated Routers -00 Overlapping Relays -00 MPR Extension -00 Smart Peering -00 OSPF MANET design team chartered discussion on ospf-manet@ietf.org No consensus; new WG mailing list formed

  3. Status as of IETF-65 • Two approaches had been under active consideration • MANET Designated Routers (MDR) originally proposed by R. Ogier • Flooding via CDS, adjacency pruning, advertised topology reduction, and other optimizations • Overlapping Relays and Smart Peering (OR/SP) by Cisco team • Flooding via MPRs and backups (ORs), adjacency pruning via SP, and other optimizations

  4. Status as of IETF-65 (cont.) • A third approach published in February • “OSPF MPR Extension for Ad Hoc Networks” by INRIA team • Flooding via MPRs, adjacencies only between MPRs and MPR Selectors, special Synch nodes to guarantee connectivity, multicast LSA acks • Meeting outcomes • Proposal by subset of design team to move forward with an MDR-based solution caused vigorous discussion • INRIA agreed to produce further technical results for consideration

  5. New or revised implementations • New: Kenneth Holter’s Overlapping Relays implementation for quagga • http://folk.uio.no/kenneho/index.php?page=studies&subpage=wospf • Ported to Paul Jakma’s private git branch of quagga • New: Aniket Desai’s OPNET implementation of MDRs • adesai@opnet.com • Revised: Boeing’s quagga/GTNetS implementation • http://hipserver.mct.phantomworks.org/ietf/ospf/
