  2. General • Consultations with all countries (31 so far, continuing today) • No major problems expected with regard to Main Survey operations and data management

Main Survey Preparation • Please register for the Data Management Seminar and Marker Training July 7-11, Hamburg, Germany • Administration period • Somewhat flexible • NH countries early in 2009 possible • SH countries March – May 2009 possible (as late as possible) • Preview instruments: CIVED released items and questionnaires should be used with comment on difference to ICCS material • School Coordinator could be teacher from participating class

  4. Instrument Preparation • Countries should communicate and share translations, but careful attention should be given to adaptations already done; use NAF from translated template version • Number of languages in MS:

  5. International Options • Participation in Regional Modules:

General Issues • Teacher Survey • Sending Teacher Questionnaires to school principal for distribution might increase response rate (but School Coordinator might collect questionnaires) • Incentives (through lottery) • Scanning • Some countries interested in scanning instruments • See SOP Unit 3 for guidelines and suggestions • On-line data collection: will be used by 8 countries

  7. Data Management • Keep in mind that MS sample is ~6 times bigger! A lot more administration to arrange, more scoring and more data • Do make backup copies! • Please announce upload of material by sending email(also confirm completion of SAQ/NCQ via email) • Plan for communication round after data submission using cleaning reports
