  2. Objectives: • Learn how to complete the square to solve quadratic equations.

  3. Assignment • pp. 534-535 #5-39 all • WS 13.4 (in-class)

  4. Directions for Warm-up ax2 + bx + c = 0 b = middle term b/2 = b divided by 2 (b/2)2 = b divided by 2 squared

  5. Warm-up

  6. Halve the middle term and square the result. That’s the rule! Half of +4 is 2 and so : Becomes . . . . .

  7. Then what?

  8. Solve x2 + 4x – 12 = 0

  9. Solve y2 – 6y + 4 = 0

  10. Solve 1/2x2 – 1/2x – 10 = 0

  11. Solve 1/2x2 – 1/2x – 10 = 0

  12. Solve .9a2 +5.4a – 4 = 0

  13. Solve .9a2 +5.4a – 4 = 0

  14. Solve 2p2- 3p = 0

  15. Solve r2 + 8r + 10 = 0

  16. Solve r2 + 8r + 10 = 0
