  5. AFFIRMATIVE ACTION • GIVING SOMEONE A BENEFIT OR AN ADVANTAGE, SOLELY ON THE BASIS OF SOME IDENTIFIED CRITERIA, THAT THEY WOULD NOT NORMALLY RECEIVE

  6. NEPOTISM: • GIVING SOMEONE A BENEFIT OR AN ADVANTAGE, SOLELY ON THE BASIS OF SOME IDENTIFIED CRITERIA, THAT THEY WOULD NOT NORMALLY RECEIVE

  7. In terms of conservation of resources, I would say that I am: • MORE conscientious about recycling and not wasting resources (e.g., water, electricity, food) than MOST people around me. I’m above average. • as conscientious about recycling and not wasting resources (e.g., water, electricity, food) as are MOST people around me. I am average. • LESS conscientious about recycling and not wasting resources (e.g., water, electricity, food) than MOST people around me. I’m below average.

COMMON “PROBLEMS” RELATED TO AFFIRMATIVE ACTION: • It gives people unfair advantages • It gives people something they didn’t work for • Less qualified (or unqualified) people move ahead of those who are more qualified • The abilities of all people of color are questioned • It discriminates against whites and men
