IHE at RSNA 2004 • Portable Data for Imaging (PDI) Demonstration • Distributed demonstration in vendor booths • Participants create and import CDs conformant with profile • Sample CDs distributed to attendees in advance and on site • Participation already set, testing in process • IHE User Success Stories • 14 selected from 40 abstracts submitted • Presented as posters in infoRAD showcase exhibit • Available online during and after conference • IHE Education Sessions • 20 in dedicated infoRAD classroom • 2 Refresher Course sessions IHE Interoperability Workshop

  4. HIMSS 2005 Interoperability Showcases • A national vision of a connected and interoperable healthcare infrastructure • The Interoperability and Ambulatory IT Showcase exhibit areas will feature cross-enterprise sharing of health information in the acute care and ambulatory environment within the framework of a National Health Information Infrastructure. • These hands-on exhibits linked with vendor booths will create a highly interactive environment to demonstrate practical interoperability featuring standards-based connectivity across the health care enterprises from acute care to ambulatory care IT. One of the most significant healthcare industry efforts of the 21st century. HIMSS has taken a leadership role in making this vision a reality. IHE Interoperability Workshop

  5. Interoperability Showcases • Cross-enterprise Showcase • 4,000 square feet on exhibit floor – located near attendee registration • Focus on cross-enterprise interoperability of an electronic health record and document sharing • Ambulatory Care Showcase • 4,000 square feet on exhibit floor - adjacent to Cross-enterprise Showcase • Focus on interoperability of IT applications in ambulatory care in a variety of settings IHE Interoperability Workshop

  10. Cross-enterprise Showcase • Visionary demonstrations of the future in healthcare – Organizational participants • Featuring initiatives, collaborations, and standards development activities in support of interoperability • Agency for Health Research and Quality (AHRQ) • Centers for Disease Control (CDC) • Center for Information Technology and Leadership (CITL) • Continuity of Care Record (CCR) • Department of Defense (DoD) • ISO TC 215 Health Informatics • Oregon Health Information Infrastructure • Santa Barbara County Health Data Exchange • Veterans Health Administration • Washington University Personal Health Record Project IHE Interoperability Workshop

  11. Ambulatory Care Showcase • Demonstration of interoperability across a variety of settings including a free-standing diagnostic enter, a large clinic, a small practice and the patient’s home • Use cases will guide the attendee through the settings in the normal course of care • Theater area for related presentations • Invited speakers and Leadership level only • Product placement near demonstration IHE Interoperability Workshop

  12. Interoperability Showcase at HIMSS 2005 Foundation for NHII Interoperability This is the first time that a standards-based integration approach is implemented to share patient record information across care delivery organizations in a multi-vendor clinical applications environment. This demonstrates the momentum of the vendors in responding effectively to the HHS patient record vision. Use of IHE Integration Profiles during integration testing and pilot phases of a system development lifecycle will ensure interoperability among systems and provide care delivery organizations with the solid business case for specific product selections. IHE is gaining maturity by addressing multi-domains (IT Infrastructure, cardiology, laboratory, radiology, continuity of care) within and across enterprises. IHE Interoperability Workshop

  13. IHE Demo at ACC 2005 • A demonstration of IHE interoperability is planned for the March 2005 meeting of the American College of Cardiology (Orlando) • The demonstration will target clinical Cardiologists, Cardiology Administrators, and Information Services (IS) staff • For many, this will be their first exposure to IHE IHE Interoperability Workshop

  14. Presentation Formats • Kiosk in the ACC exhibit area of the exhibits hall (video loop) • Small theater presentations (slide shows) • Technical Demonstration area (2500 square feet reserved). Clinical scenarios will be used as the basis of interactions with participants. IHE Interoperability Workshop

  15. Technical Demonstration • Will focus on showing how clinically-relevant problems can be solved with IHE • Clinical Scenarios: • Cath: Primary Angioplasty for an Acute MI on an unregistered patient (“John Doe”) • Echo: Emergency (unordered) echo in the ICU • Echo: Stress echo (coordinated views and stages) • ECG: Retrieve ECG for Display IHE Interoperability Workshop
