  3. Planning and Preparation • After Library Board reviews the policy • Incorporate policy and legal changes into training materials • Find a small group of staff to prepare and present training • Send invitations • Rehearse!

  4. Who needs to be at the table? • Representatives from • library administration • library management • community relations • front line staff • County Attorney

  5. Staff Training • Offered every year • Open to all library and security staff • Attendance is strongly encouraged • Library Board members are invited • County officials are invited • Presented by Rapid Response Team (staff) • County Attorney is there, too

Internet Survival Kit Printed material about Internet access, gathered together in a kit to be kept at each Info Desk • Web Site Catalog references on Internet Safety • Samples of handouts for the public • Talk cards for 5 most common patron questions • Checklist for responding to Internet incidents

  8. Rapid Response Team • Support for HCL staff on concerns over public access to the Internet. This includes: • problem-solving for specific incidents or complaints • interpretation of the HCL Internet Public Use Policy • development of tools to help staff manage this service

  9. Rapid Response Team Examples • Police ask to take a library computer as evidence in criminal investigation • Kids use library computer to order merchandise using stolen credit cards • Teens view “gross” website • Staff apply sanctions for violating policy

  10. Rapid Response Team • Contact the Rapid Response Team by e-mail. (Outlook address: “Rapid Response Team”) • Contact individual Team members by e-mail or phone during regular business hours • After hours, contact Team members at home • Team membership listed on Staff Web under Directories > Teams • And remember to fill out an Incident Report
