  8. Questions ?

  9. Kettle Falls Generating Station Celebrating 25 years ! We are Clean, Green, Renewable Energy !

  10. Kettle Falls Generating Station • 50 MW/Hr Gross • 47 MW/Hr Net (MW = 1,000,000 watts) • One CE boiler • Single GE turbine, 65,000 HP • One MW = enough energy to power 600 to 1,000 homes • 800 homes * 47 MW * 3 individuals/household = 112,800 people

  11. Power plant economics • Access to reasonably priced fuel in relation to energy markets • Access to water for cooling purposes • Access to transmission lines • A willing (or not so willing buyer) for the energy • High reliability for energy produced

  12. Cost of Generation • Biomass, new $85 – 90/MW (some tax credits) • Wind $80 but large tax credits • Combined Cycle gas $65 • Idaho PURPA rate around $70 (2008) • RPS for WA and OR • KFGS part of Avista rate base

  13. Keys to success for biomass energy • It’s all about the fuel, availability, availability, availability.10 to 20 year supply • Stay engaged in the political and education process. Tell your story to anyone who will listen. • Actively engage employees of current events so they are good ambassadors for the facility. • Seek partnerships with traditional foes and allies. • Look for long term commitments with suppliers.
