  2. Tolerating False Teachers Is Not the Answer • 2 Corinthians 11 • 4 For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted--you may well put up with it!

Tolerating False Teachers Is Not the Answer • Revelation 2 • 14 "But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality. • 15 "Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate. • 16 'Repent, or else I will come to you quickly and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth.

How Jesus Reacted to False Teachers • Truth Sometimes Offends: • Jesus: • “…they were offended at Him” (Mat. 13:57) • “…Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?” (Mat. 15:12) • Jesus warned, “…many will be offended” When they heard His message (Mat. 24:10) • “…they were offended at Him.” (Mk. 6:3) • Jesus even remarked, “And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.” (Lk. 7:23)

  6. How Christians Are Told To Respond To False Teachers • Preach the Truth, Regardless: • 2 Timothy 4:2 • Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.

  7. How Christians Are Told To Respond To False Teachers • Speak Boldly, Bluntly • (1 Corinthians 4:18-21) • Now some are puffed up, as though I were not coming to you. But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord wills, and I will know, not the word of those who are puffed up, but the power. For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power. What do you want? Shall I come to you with a rod, or in love and a spirit of gentleness?

The Benefits Of Correction • Correction Helps People To Stop Compromising the Truth • (Galatians 2:11-12) • Now when Peter had come to Antioch, I withstood him to his face, because he was to be blamed; for before certain men came from James, he would eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision.

The Benefits Of Correction • Correction Is Helpful Only When It Is Motivated By Love • (1 Corinthians 4:14) I do not write these things to shame you, but as my beloved children I warn you. • (1 Thessalonians 2:11-12) as you know how we exhorted, and comforted, and charged every one of you, as a father does his own children, that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.
